FOOD FRIEND ACTION
Collecting and Redistributing Food
Inspired by the joint-school services, I initiated a food drive campaign in partnership with People Service Center. Every month, we visit one of Hong Kong's most disadvantaged districts, Shum Shui Po, collect unsold goods from the local vendors, and give them out to those in need.
Food Friend Action: Project
Spending time interacting with the needy during community works has only broken my heart more as I started building a connection. I have seen the elderly struggling to pull a cart of cupboard many times her size uphill, and single mothers working tirelessly while taking care of her sons. It leads me to question my past actions inwardly - am I really making an impact?
While my uncertainty lingered, it drove me to dedicate myself to launching a monthly food drive, aiming to make persistent impacts. Traveling to Sham Shui Po, I managed to convince 20 vendors to donate their unsold goods and led my club members to clean, repackage, and redistribute them for free to the neighborhood. As the program went on, I shared to pleasure to be slowly accepted and welcomed in their community, benefiting more than sixty people per run. Eventually, I heard great stories from those who regularly visited us: one of them managed to have her air-conditioner repaired after saving her dinner money, and another one was recovered from malnutrition.
Am I really making an impact? Well, maybe I am, and maybe I am not. But what's important was that as I continue to search for the answer, though in the end, I might not be able to impact the society as a whole, I can change the lives of the people living in it, and thus I dubbed the website the name, William's Looking for Answer.
